List your favorite hike that can be done in a weekend. Can be long or short. Trail can even be done in one day but you recommend camping overnight at a certain spot because you love it. I'll start.

Area: Virgin Falls Pocket Wilderness
Trail: Virgin Falls
Location: TN
Campsites: Many great spots
Length: About 4 miles one-way (8+ miles in and out)
Trail Type: One-way
Difficulty: Moderate, difficult for some in spots
Water?: It's everywhere

Area: Honey Creek Pocket Wilderness (Big South Fork)
Trail: Honey Creek Trail
Location: TN
Campsites: Only 1 Very good one, A bit off trail
Length: 5.8 miles
Trail Type: Loop
Difficulty: Difficult, Dangerous after dark or when excessively wet.
Water?: Travels along the Big South Fork and traverses several streams

Most scenic trail in Tennessee in my opinion. Packed with rock houses, waterfalls, balds, rivers, caves etc...

Area: Grayson Highlands & Mount Rogers Virgina
Trail: Wilburn Ridge, Rhododendron Gap, Appalachian Trail
Location: Southwest Virginia
Campsites: Several along the AT, and Thomas Knob Shelter.
Length: Around 8 miles, but can be added onto, or shortened very easily.
Trail Type: Loop
Difficulty: Moderate, difficult for some in spots
Water?: Thomas Knob has the best access to water, although there are a few other spots along the hike.

This is by far one of the best hikes in the area. It is a bit of a drive (about 30 miles from Damascus, VA) but very well worth it. It is definitely the closest to hiking in the Rockies I have seen in the south. Beautiful scenery, feral horses, options galore and an outstanding trail system. This is definitely going to become an annual visit for us, if not more.

That's a pretty common misconception about Big South Fork. There are actually several trails that are foot travel only. Honey Creek is one of those. It was owned by Bowater, but was donated to Big South Fork and as such is on the outskirts of the park and a bit hard to find. There are directions on the net, but the drive can be confusing. Nice video by the way. When we went to Grayson it was around 10 at night with snow and Ice. Made for a winter wonderland feeling.

I'd have to say my favorite place to go is Virgin Falls Pocket Wilderness. It has great some great waterfalls and some pretty cool caves to explore. Another place I really enjoyed was Mt. Leconte in the Smokies. It is a must do trip if you get to Smokies often.
